Darkness
-

Why as humans are we so curious of the darkness, yet at the same time so frightened. For example, I love being outside at night. Blurry street lights making it possible to see the outlines of neighboring homes and shrubbery. Tiny speckles of light in the night sky. An enveloping calm, that is at the same time eerie. At the same time, I am deathly afraid of the dark, evidenced by the fact that I sleep with a small luminary, or “night light.” At the same time there is something in the shadows that is so intriguing. Like in scary movies, how the naive characters cautiously step into the dark maroon carpeted hallway to find a rabid ax murderer waiting there patiently for them.

There is just something about the night and darkness. It gives everything a different face. Like fire and water, it’s something that will always wet curiosity’s whistle.
